1. Alkesh Kumar Sharma has assumed charge as the new Secretary for the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.

A)He is an Indian Administrative Services Officer of the 1990 batch, from the Kerala cadre.

B) Sharma worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for three years(2006-09) as National Project Director, Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation. 

2. Three One District One Product Brands and Five Products launched under the PMFME scheme of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

A) Shri. Pashupati Kumar Paras, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries has signed an agreement with NAFED for developing 10 brands of selected 20 ODOPs under the branding and marketing component of the PMFME scheme.

B)  The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme that aims to enhance the competitiveness of existing individual micro-enterprises .

3. According to the ‘World Press Freedom Index 2022’ India got the 150th rank.

A) This index has been published annually since the year 2020. This index is published by the Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF) or Reporters Without Borders. This index is used to rank countries according to the press freedom levels available to the journalists of a country. The index doesn’t serve as an indicator of journalism quality.

B)  India slipped eight positions from 142 to 150th position. India is said to be one of the most dangerous countries for the press. In the country, an average of 3 to 4 journalists are killed each year. In this index’s inaugural edition, India was ranked 80th.

4. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has invited applications for the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for drones and drone components.

A) The eligibility criteria for the PLI scheme for drones and drone components includes an annual sales turnover of INR 2 crore for drone companies and INR 50 lacs for drone components manufacturers; and value addition of over 40% of sales turnover.

5. J&K Delimitation Commission has issued final notification, reserved 43 Assembly seats for Jammu, 47 for Kashmir.

A) In two significant recommendations, the Delimitation Commission has asked the Central government to reserve two seats for ‘Kashmiri Migrants (essentially Pandits)’ as well as nominate representatives of people displaced from PoJK and settled in J&K, in the Assembly of the Union Territory.

B) In the new Assembly, the panel has said, these seats should continue to be set aside, but some representatives of people who moved here from PoJK should be nominated to the House.

6. India and Australia have discussed ways to combat terrorism.

A) In the meeting, both sides underlined their commitment to coordinate and collaborate on tackling terrorism in line with the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

B) The 13th meeting of the India-Australia joint working group on counter-terrorism that took place in Canberra.

7. ‘Save Soil’ campaign: Sadhguru to address leaders from 195 nations at UNCCD.

A) Sadhguru, the founder of Isha Foundation, will address political leaders from 195 countries at the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on May 9-10.

B) The spiritual leader, who is currently on a 100-day long motorcycle journey through Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East as part of the ‘Save Soil’ initiative. The theme of the 15th session of the Conference of Parties (COP15) at UNCCD  is “Land. Life. Legacy: From scarcity to prosperity”.

8.  According to a recent WHO report, 4.7 million Covid deaths in India in 2020-21.

A) A World Health Organisation report on Thursday said that almost half of the Covid-19 deaths that till now had not been counted were in India. The report suggested that 4.7 million people died in the country as a result of the pandemic, mostly during a surge in May and June 2021.

B) The government has put its death toll recorded between January 2020 and December 2021 at about 480,000.
