Here we are with another blog on the series “KNOW OUR WORLD”. In this blog, we will talk about a country, globally famous for its beautiful beaches, islands, hill stations and its over the top capital, i.e., Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur, its capital is a powerhouse financial and business hub in SouthEast Asia.

Capital city: Kuala Lumpur.

National Bird: Rhinoceros Hornbill.

National Flag :

The flag of Malaysia, also known as Jalur Gemilang (Stripes of Glory), is composed of a field of 14 alternating red and white stripes along the fly and a blue canton bearing a crescent and a 14-point star known as the Bintang Persekutuan (Federal Star).

14 stripes on the Malaysia flag represent the 14 states of Malaysia (Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Labuan). The blue square represents the harmony of the people.

Geography:

The country is located on the Asian continent and consists of two regions, the Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia which is Malaysian part of the island of Borneo.

The longest river : Rajang river.

The highest mountain : Borneo’s Mount Kinabalu.

Malaysia has hundreds of islands along the coastline. Pulau Langkawi is the biggest island of the country.

Penang, also called Georgetown is known as the food capital of Malaysia.

The island of Borneo is the largest island in Asia.

Malaysia’s Mulu Caves on the island of Borneo are one of the largest cave systems in the world.

Malaysia’s population consists roughly half of ethnic Malays. Other significant groups include Chinese, Indians and various indigenous peoples.

Malaysia has a unique rotating monarchy system, in which nine ethnic Malay state rulers take turns as king for five-year terms.

World Famous Shoe designer Jimmy Choo was born in Penang, Malaysia.

Four UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sites are found in Malaysia: Gunung Mulu National Park, Kinabalu Park, the historic cities of Melaka and George Town, and the archaeological heritage site of the Lenggong Valley.

The largest flower in the world, Rafflesia, grows in Malaysia.

Malaysia is a major exporter of tropical fruits.

The tallest twin buildings in the world, Petronas Towers, are in Malaysia.
