Here we are with another blog on the series “KNOW OUR WORLD”. In this blog, we will talk about a country, famous for its art, architecture, food and much more. Yes, it’s France.

France is officially called the French Republic and it is one of the most significant nations in Europe due to its rich history and culture. It also holds a permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) with four other nations.

Official Name : République Française (French Republic).

Capital city : Paris (Largest city).

Religion: Catholicism .

National Anthem:  ‘La Marseillaise’ .

Language : French.

Currency : Euro.

National Flower : Iris.

National Animal : The Gallic Rooster or the red Junglefowl

National Flag :

The flag of France is a tricolour flag featuring three vertical bands coloured blue, white, and red. Colors symbolized the  values of the French Revolution: liberty, equality, brotherhood, democracy, secularism, and modernization.

National Day: 14 July.

Geography:

The largest country in Western Europe, France has long been a gateway between the continent’s northern and southern regions. Its lengthy borders touch Germany and Belgium in the north, the Atlantic Ocean in the west, and the Pyrenees mountains and Spain in the south. It also borders the Mediterranean sea in the southeast, and the Alps, Switzerland and Italy in the east.

France is the largest country in the European Union.

It is the world’s most popular tourist destination.

The famous motto of ‘liberty, equality and fraternity’ came from this country in the landmark French Revolution.

The French Army was the first to use camouflage in 1915 (World War I).

One can marry a dead person in France with the permission of the President.

The French invented tin cans, the hairdryer, and the hot air balloon.

France legalized same-sex marriage in 2013.

France has more Nobel Prize winners in literature than any other country in the world.
