1. Ministry of Culture to organize a two day Rishikesh Music Festival 2022 on 14th and 15th May as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

A) This edition is being organized jointly with Sangeet Natak Academy, Uttarakhand Tourism and Kutani Handpan Academy.

B) The main aim of Rishikesh Music Festival includes promotion of Rishikesh as a global Centre for music learning and music production, promotion of Musical Tourism in Rishikesh, showcase and document intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

C) The event will be graced by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, alongside other dignitaries.

2. Oman to fast-track approval of Indian pharma products registered by USFDA, UKMHRA and EMA.

A) The 10th Session of the India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) was held on 11 May 2022 in New Delhi.

B) Fast tracking of approvals for registration of Indian pharmaceutical products already registered by USFDA, UKMHRA and EMA was agreed to during the deliberations.

C) Bilateral trade has been witnessing robust growth increasing from US$ 5.4 billion in 2020-21 to US$ 9.94 billion during 2021-2022, an impressive annual growth of 82.6%. 

3. India has been elected as Chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) for 2022-24.

A) India has been unanimously elected as the new Chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) for 2022-2024 at the recently held meeting of the Executive board and General Assembly at Manila, Philippines on May 7, 2022. 

B) Commission on Elections, Manila was the current chair of AAEA. The new members in the Executive Board now include Russia, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Taiwan and Philippines.

C) In pursuance of the resolution passed by participants of the Symposium on Asian Elections in the Twenty First Century held from January 26-29, 1997 in Manila, Philippines, the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) was established in 1998.  Currently 20 Asian EMBs are members of AAEA. 

4. RailTel has recently launched the PM-WANI scheme.

A) The “Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface is the Department of Telecom’s program that helps facilitate the use and proliferates broadband usage across the country. Its framework has been developed and designed by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT). 

B) The chairman and managing director of RailTel Puneet Chawla launched this WiFi access scheme.

5. ‘The Pulitzer Prize 2022’ in Drama, Journalism, Music, and Books was announced. 

A) The Indian award winners are Irshad Matto, Amit Dave, Adnan Abidi, and the late Danish Siddiqui of Reuters in the category of Journalism.

B) Pulitzer Prize is an award that is given for achievements in newspapers, magazines, musical composition, online journalism, and literature. This prize was established in the year 1917 by the provisions that were written in the will of Joseph Pulitzer. Columbia University administers this prize.

C) These prizes are being given annually in 21 categories. In 20 categories, the winners each receive USD 15,000 and a certificate. The winner in the prize’s Public Service Category receives a gold medal.

6. The Supreme Court of India has decided to stop sedition trials until Govt re-examines it.

A) All pending trials, appeals and proceedings with respect to the charge framed under Section 124A of IPC be kept in abeyance. 

B) A bench of Chief Justice of India N V Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hema Kohli said in the interim order, “The decision in respect of other sections, if any, may proceed if the Courts are of the opinion that there is no prejudice to the accused.”

7. International Nurses Day is Observed on May 12 around the world annually.

A)  International Nurses Dayis celebrated around the world on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

B) The theme for this year is Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health, which focuses on the need to protect, support and invest in the nursing profession to strengthen health systems around the world.

8. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath removes Uttar Pradesh DGP Mukul Goel for ‘inaction’.

A) According to information shared by home department officials, Goel was removed from the DGP’s post due to what they described as disregard for government work, lack of interest in departmental work and inaction. They did not elaborate.

B) Additional director general (ADG), Law and Order, Prashant Kumar has been given charge in the absence of the DGP.
